 Blog 2 - Coraline

To start, for my second blog i chose to stick ith the animated films i chase the movie Coraline, this type of film is a stop motion animated dark fantasy horror film, this movie is written and directed by Herny Selick and the film was based off of Neil gaiman’s novella that has the same name as this film. Yet, Colaline was released february 6th in 2009, and they are in the making of Colaline two at the moment and will be released soon this Halloween on October 31st, 2023. However, the movie is one hour and forty minutes long.

For instance, the movie starts off with an eleven year old little girl named Coraline Jones who is the main character in this horror fantasy movie, that has to move into an old beaten up apartment in an old spooky house with her parents, although Colaline don't want to move at first she suddenly caught interest in the new/old house with its dusty walls and mysterious trap doors. Coraline has a best friend named Wybie Lovat sort for Wyborn, Wybie also has a black cat that doesn't have a name that scares Coraline at the beginning of the movie, Wybie always seems to ride a little motorcycle that it looks like he made himself. The reason they had moved is because Coraline's grandmother knows about the doll that the other mother uses to spy on their next victim with, in which case the grandmother let Coraline and her family move in after haing te doll hidden safely in the trunk back at home. With that in mind, later on that day Coraline’s mother had given her something that a friend (Wybie) had dropped off at the front door he said it was for her, as she opens it she quickly realizes that its in fact (a doll) that looks exactly like her in her words (a little me) she thought it was stange.

Although, her parents Melinda Jones her mother that goes by Mel and her father Charlie Jones, dont really acknowledge that Coraline is speaking to them half of the time and they dont really do much with her either,considering they are always working and busy at doing something important. For exemple, Coraline tells her mother that she had almost fell down a well the other day but Mel docent listen clearly and continues to work on her computer as if what Coraline was saying to her was less important than her work that she was doing and that she dosent have time for her, her dad is also very busy at writing on a computer in a locked away room where no one can bother him, he tells her to go explore the house, to count the windows and doors... 

As a result, of not paying attention to Coraline she explores a bit more around the 150 year old apartement, she starts to unpack her boxes of items and clothes to fill out her empty room. Whereas, she then realises that the doll that she had received from Wybie had been following her and also lead her too a secret locked door on the bottom of the wall behind a moving box. Coraline wants to know what it is, she asks her mom whats it leads to and of course she dosent have the time to go check she is still very busy, but after a bunch of screaming the word please, her mother goes to find the key that fits they open the door to find bricks, just bricks Coraline was very disappointed when she had seen this, at this moment in the film they show a close up of the dolls face that it also looking at the bricks.

Furthermore, Coraline goes to bed that night disappointed especially after eating her dads smile of a casserole she falls asleep, and wakes up to the sound of a tiny mouse leading her to the small door that appeared to only have bricks behind it. Although, when she had opened the door for the second time, a long blue tunnel appears, she crawls trought with curiosity to find helfself in the same house but better there was amazing food, food that actually smells good unlike her real dads cooking, except when she sees her mom she has buttons as eyes she explains that shes her other mother, and tells her to go get her other father whom is playing piano witch her real father could never do. She realises how perfect the other family was how everything revolves around her there, unlike how back at home she received little to no attention from her real parents at all.

Afterwards, they are done eating Coraline’s other mother explains that if she wants to stay she has to also replace her eyes to buttons, and that she can pick any color she wanted, she dosent agree with them and gets scared in this moment she pretends as if she is tired so she can go back to bed and wake up in her normal bed again. Although, she dosent realise that whenever she goes to bed at night from now on she will wake up in the other house with her other parents whom try to force her everytime she comes back to sew button in her eyes. However, what Coraline dosent know in this moment is that her other mother dosent want to help her and make her feel worth something she just wants to possess Coraline and steal her soul witch is also why she wants to sew buttons in her eyes.

In conclusion, the movie ends with Coraline getting trapped in the other world and escaping it and the other mother to return to her own, the ending is good due to Coraline overcoming her fears and how she defeated the evil other mother by trapping her forever in the other world to be left with no more souls to steal and due to Coraline saving her parents from the other wold aswell as the trapped souls of the three children including Wybie
